12.9 quart Iris bin

The second preset is a clear latching bin identified as Costco SKU 1410571, sold under the Iris name. The SKU is so you can tell which box the numbers refer to. We are not Iris and we are not Costco. Measure the bin in your hand before you cut a rack full of bays for it.

Catalog size and the one place we round

Published depth and width are already clean fractions, 16½ and 11, and the tool uses those. Published height is 6.8 inches, which is not an eighth or a sixteenth, so the preset uses 6¾ (6.75). Same reason as the 27 gallon tote: the cut list stays in ordinary fractions instead of a decimal like 6.8. That is about 0.05 inch on one bin, and it adds up if you stack many rows. If your bin really is 6.8 and you want that number, leave the preset. The locked height stays 6¾ while this preset is selected.

The lip is the part the catalog line does not give you. This preset uses 0.75 inch of combined overhang (width minus lipless width) and 0.75 inch from the lip seat up to the top. Combined overhang of 0.75 inch is only ⅜ inch of lip per side before slack. That is a short seat. Bin-cleat slack defaults to zero so you keep all of that bearing. If you add slack, watch the lip-cleat contact figure. The tool warns when contact drops below half of what zero slack would give you.

What selecting it fills in

Inches. Lipless width is 11 − 0.75.

Field Catalog Preset uses
Bin depth 16.5 16.5
Bin width 11 11
Bin height 6.8 6.75
Lipless width — 10.25
Height above lip — 0.75
Depth slack — 1
Bin-cleat slack — 0
Vertical slack — 0.5
Top/bottom slack — 0.5

Depth slack of 1 inch makes the rack 17.5 inches deep. The black latch on the lid sticks up and out. If you store these with lids on, measure height to the top of the latch, not to the clear lid, or the next row’s cleat will meet the latch before it meets your plan.

What to watch on this bin

Field-by-field measuring is in how to measure a bin. The frames and cleats are in how the rack goes together.
